glssnt gives form to this idea — constructed by hand from fine silver and salvaged car and bike reflectors, each ring features a plastic shard gleaned from roadside accidents, or the excess pile of a bike shop in Hackney. In the studio, I polish, pierce and sand each shard, creating settings for them out of 935 sterling silver. These pieces embody an idea of luxury that is localised, sensitive to light, and up-cycled — prompts for a future generation valuing craftswomanship and safety as much as they value environmental responsibility: this is what I hope being from the city means.
What does it mean to be from the city?
“To live the landscape with passion. To bring it out of the indistinct, to search it, to light it up among ourselves.”
— Édouard Glissant (1969)
